Women in Wales announces £30,000 raised for children’s charities
On 12 May 2023, £30,000 was raised at the 29th annual luncheon hosted by Women in Wales – a charity currently chaired by Betsan Powell, Director and Head of Commercial Services at JCP Solicitors.
Founded in 1992, the Women in Wales charity raises funds in support of children’s charities across the nation.
Trustees of Welsh children’s charities are encouraged to submit applications for funding every year. Since Women in Wales’ inception funds raised have totalled close to £1m.
At the 2023 luncheon, Betsan and the Women in Wales team hosted over 300 guests at the Mercure Holland House Hotel, with the event sponsored by Sykes Holiday Cottages and supported by other leading local business sponsors, including JCP Solicitors, LHP Accountants and In The Welsh Wind. Entertainment included a Q&A with award-winning milliner Alison Tod and presenter Huw Rees, as well as performances from singer Leighton Rafferty.
Betsan Powell, Chair of Women in Wales and Director at JCP Solicitors, said: “The Women in Wales lunch has become a firm fixture in the social calendar of women from all walks of life. The success of the event is due to a hardworking committee and the support of businesses up and down the country, working together to fund children’s projects in Wales.”
The event included multiple fundraising activities, all generating funds for selected charities. Cheques were presented at Black Pool Mill, Narberth as follows:
- £7,000 to Dreams & Wishes
- £8,000 to Pembrokeshire Food Story
- £5,000 to Ty Hafan
- £6,000 to Sandy Bear Bereavement Charity
- £3,000 to Pembrokeshire Riding for the Disabled
A donation of £1,000 was also made to MPCT whose learners support event each year by selling raffle tickets.
Betsan continued: “It is a real privilege to serve as Chair and work alongside the Women in Wales trustees and ambassadors. Everyone involved should be proud that the funds raised from the 2023 luncheon will have a long-term impact on all charities supported.
Not only that, but I’m also proud to see JCP Solicitors continue as one of the sponsors of the event; the Women in Wales luncheon is truly reflective of our firm’s commitment to supporting the communities in which we are based.”
